ABOUT

About Me

Art is an essential part of who I am and I have known this for as long as I can remember. And is perhaps the only thing that I have ever known for sure.

My works reverberate with mostly landscapes, nature and wildlife. At a young age, I originally began with painting and drawing still life because the mediums, compositions made me feel comfortable and I was familiar with the process. Only much later, I discovered new ways of expressing my passions in art with different mediums such as photography and string art as a form of drawing using materialistic forms.

With photography, capturing unique perspectives and light & shadow is important to me! I draw inspiration from being in nature and to capture its elusive quality and ambience while I strive to convey that sense of place, is capturing its fleeting magic.

Joanne Adela Low is a multidisciplinary artist born in Vietnam and raised in Singapore. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Sociology from the University of Auckland, as well as a Diploma in Fine Arts (majoring in Drawing) from LASALLE College of the Arts. Her practice is grounded in drawing but expands into photography, mixed media, and experimental mark-making. Across forms, her work explores the emotional resonance of place, the quiet poetry of nature, and the interplay between urban life and environmental memory.

In 2016, she was nominated to exhibit with the Affordable Art Fair Youth Team, later returning as an Art Curatorial Assistant for the 2019 Fair. There, she supported the installation and documentation of over twenty artworks across three booths, and engaged more than one thousand visitors over three days—deepening her interest in public engagement and creative accessibility. She further developed her exhibition and curatorial experience at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) in 2023–2024, where she contributed to gallery operations, archival maintenance, curatorial logistics, and visitor education.

Joanne has collaborated with creatives and brands across Singapore, including a 2019 conceptual photoshoot with Thibault Gauriau Photography and Kipling’s Live Light initiative, where she produced hand-painted illustrated monkey charms displayed in stores nationwide.

Her photography has gained international visibility, accumulating over 28 million views on Pexels and appearing on 2,800+ websites worldwide, including Wikipedia, Psychology Today, and Thought Catalogue. Her portrait submissions for the Pexels Challenge: Portraits with a Pop were selected as featured highlights on the Pexels blog.

From 2019 to 2021, Joanne also worked as a freelance artist and art educator at Miro Art Studio, teaching workshops and private lessons for more than 3,000 students. Her freelance practice included digital art, photography, and traditional media, with original artworks and prints sold internationally through Etsy.

In addition, she presented her work in LASALLE’s ArtSpace Project: Drawing Out Conversations, showcasing alongside nine emerging artists. Her contributions explored themes of place, memory, and sensory comfort—motifs that continue to shape her artistic trajectory. Rooted in strong draftsmanship, Joanne actively experiments with new forms of drawing, including string art and process-driven mark-making, as she expands her visual language.

With a completed degree in Art History and Sociology, alongside practical experience in curation, education, and visual storytelling, Joanne aims to pursue future work in heritage preservation, community-centered art, and exhibition development.
